It is beginning to look that the bipartisan Border/Ukraine/Israel is no longer dead on arrival in the House. Because it will never leave the Senate. Calling the GOP a chickenshit outfit is an insult to fowl everywhere.
The proposed bill is what legislation is supposed to look like. It's detailed, it provides for Congressional oversight, it requires reports on a broad range of implementation results and it provides the money and authorizations to vary regular procedures to do it. The substantive provisions land between the hyper-extremes of kill them all and send limos, grant citizenship and passports on arrival and put $250,000 in their pockets to get them started living the American Dream. (So far as I know that isn't actually being proposed anywhere.) Goes too far? Not far enough? In the Goldilocks zone?
We'll never hear the public debate, which is a shame. But some problems are just too lovable to solve.
